Self Portrait after Holbein

Self Portrait after Holbein

Stuart Littlejohn trained in art in Exeter, England in the 1970's, and quickly began to amass a reputation as artist working with themes of magic, mythology and ancient history, subjects that he is passionate about. His work began to appear on the covers of prominent books exploring the themes of mythology and magic, and he gained a reputation not only for artistic skill, but for the knowledge of the subject matter expressed within his art.

His exploration and study of ancient and classical ritual traditions deepened his understanding of magical imagery, which he applied to his artwork and illustrations. Stuart also began to experiment with Pre-Raphaelite forms, and developed a playful way of working that combined history with imagination, and mythology.

He began taking commissions for portraits in historical/mythical styles and settings, and also to paint ritual imagery, deities, dreams and visions for various clients. He has completed two innovative divination decks, one of which is theLXXXI Quareia Magicians Deck in partnership with artist Cassandra Beanland. Today Stuart continues to paint on commission, and also to explore his own artistic expressions.
